Twin Peaks: Season 3?

Twin Peaks was originally intended to run forever like a soap, but producers brought it to an end in series two with a tantalising cliffhanger. Fansites have speculated and a graphic novel was briefly planned but it's unlikely anything will materialise. Still, audiences are pondering: what would happen in a third series? We've been scratching our heads and come up with a few ideas.

Last time we saw Agent Cooper, he wasn't looking so good. He escaped the Black Lodge but is possessed by Bob. With the murder case seemingly closed, Cooper/Bob returns to FBI headquarters and begins committing more atrocities. As noone in Washington would believe in the supernatural, Twin Peaks' vigilante group 'The Bookhouse Boys', led by Sheriff Truman- must discovery the White Lodge (the spiritual realm of 'good') to defeat the demon inside Cooper.

In Twin Peaks' final episode, a reborn Ben Horne admits an affair with Donna Hayward's mother, hinting that Donna is his daughter. It's ambiguous whether Audrey Horne survived the Mill fire, but actress Sherilyn Fenn has stated in interviews that Audrey lived. Rumours abound that David Lynch's 2001 film 'Mulholland Drive' was originally intended to be about Audrey's future, having gone to Hollywood to live her dream as an actress. Donna and Audrey become close friends and, disillusioned with Ben, decide to leave Twin Peaks together. Their paths cross with Donna's ex, James Hurley, along the way.

Local thug Leo Johnson was left trapped with a cage of tarantulas over his head. Feeling guilt for how they had treated him, Bobby Briggs and girlfriend Shelley Johnson rescue him, only for Leo to enact his revenge on them..

And, of course- Deputy Andy Brennan marries receptionist Lucy Moran in the sweetest of happy endings.

  1. it was intended to be a mini series actually. the first season was exytended due to high ratings and a long 2nd series shortly after.

  2. Touche, to an extent. The reveal of Laura's killer was insisted by the studio midway through the 2nd series, a move which interfered with a lot of other plot lines.

  3. Audrey wasn't in the mill fire. That was Shelley in season one's cliffhanger. Audrey's potential demise would have been in the savings & loan, which exploded thanks to a bomb hidden in a safety deposit box. It is true that Audrey was to have survived season 3 and that Mulholland Drive initially started out as an Audrey Horne spinoff show that never happened.

  4. Agent Cooper / Sheriff Harry / Annie/ Hawk/ Jocelyn: Cooper returns periodically from Washington to his new house (dead dog farm) where he continues Bobs' good work killing and maiming in secret the young, beautiful girls of Twin Peaks. Annie senses the evil in Coop and runs away but tells Harry first who with the help of the 'bookhouse boys' finds away with Hawks innate 'Indian gifts' (?) to the White Lodge combined with Harries lost love of Jocelyn. Josie is now in the White waiting room waiting for Harry to forgive her(after the fire set her free), which he does and she tells him how to lure Bob out of Coop and kill him (or send him back to hell etc.) Hawk falls in love with DEA Dennis but has to settle for long walks and cold showers.

Shelly / Bobby / Leo / Major: Bobby is in a coma after the run in with 'Windom log lady earl'. Leo is rescued by the recovered Major and returns to Shelly who is guilty when she finds out how Leo tried to stop Earl. She forgives him and roll reverse caring for bed ridden Bobby. Shelly dates Gordon leaving Leo caring for Bobby who mental Leo dresses like a doll.

Ben & jerry (lol) Horne / Catherine / Pete / Andrew: Ben regains consciousness and becomes evil again; back with Ghostwood project as a partner now after marrying Catherine who is distraught from duel loss of Pete and Andrew.

Audrey/ Donna/ John Wheeler/ Dr. Hayward/ Mrs. Hayward: Audrey survives bank bomb but in a wheelchair with burns. John returns and falls in love with Donna who is living / caring for Audrey as they are step sisters. All three spearhead the anti Ghostwood campaign against there father. Audrey tries to commits suicide in double wheelchair pact with Mrs. Hayward who is at aloss after donna leaves her and the Doc dies from a heart attack from guilt of life of lies and being struck off after trying to kill Ben. Both women burn down the Great Northern Hotel with everyone in it but Audrey is rescued by the trapped spirit of Jocie who is freed by the fire but Donna's mum dies as well as well as the log lady and Dick.

James: James comes back to find Donna with John and shacks up with Norma who has left Ed again after he goes back to Nadine again. A giant love tetrahedron ensues with Donna, Nadine, Norma, Ed and john and maybe Evelyn from jail and Mike for a time.

Lucy / Andy / Dick: Lucy and Andy get married but the child is dicks who then sues for custody rights when he finds out and ends up kidnapping the child and burning in the great northern fire but Andy rescues the baby etc.

  9. I've always believed tht, if twin speaks did have a true finale, while they would've saved Agent Cooper from the Black Lodge, he would've ended up dying.

I also think it'd be interesting to take a peek into the the lives of the characters 25 years later- it's inferred that Cooper is trapped in the Black Lodge for 25 years which means, by the time he escapes, Cooper/BOB would have gone on a killing spree.

I don't think Cooper/BOB would have left Twin Peaks... simply because I doubt BOB can be too far from where the entrance to the Black Lodge is, and away from the Garmonbozia. I dunno, just a few rambling thoughts...

  10. Over the past 20 years I have managed to harvest various amounts of information from interviews etc (writers and actors) that gave hints as to what was due to happen in Season 3.

Firstly, they had hoped there would be a season 3, but pretty much felt when they filmed the final episode that was it. In fact, I believe production of the final 2 episodes were permitted by the network after the series had already been cancelled.

Season 3 was due to explore the search for the White Lodge. Major Briggs was due to play a larger part in this. Both Annie and Trueman suspect something isn't right with Cooper and at some point would have realised BOB was possessing him. However, I'm sure various plotlines would have insued first whereby BOB caused merry hell in Twin Peaks under the disguise of an FBI Agent.

Josie was trapped (as a spirit) inside the black lodge and they actually cut several scenes in the final episodes which demonstrated this. Had there been a Season 3 I had heard a rumour Joan Chen was due to return playing Josie's sister - again keeping the theme of 'Twin' running in the series.

Sheryl Lee has stated that had there been a Season 3 a brand new character had been created for her. She will not disclose anything about the character, but states she would really have liked to have played the role - so I'm guessing it was very different from Laura and Maddie.

Audrey survived the explosion because the vault door swung back and shielded her. Both Andrew and Pete were killed. This clearly would have had an effect on Catherine and my theory would have been she may have initially been cold and closed before breaking down and realising the error of her ways, before absorbing herself as a more kindly figure in Twin Peaks - based on the memory of her late husbands actions.

The plan had been to demonstrate in Season 3 the search for the White Lodge and the key to destroying BOB. I'm guessing further information about his past would have been revealed. The series was due to end on a positive note with good conquering evil, Bob being destroyed and Twin Peaks returning to normal. Somehow I wouldn't have been surprised if during the final episodes Trueman decided to leave Twin Peaks to explore the outside world (after further developing a friendship with Albert) and Cooper (free from BOB) leaves the FBI and becomes Twin Peaks new Sherif. Hanging up his badge for the simple life with a woman he loves.

  11. cooper isnt trapped in the black lodge for 25 years. Laura simply said she'd see him again in 25 years. I think itt means he dies 25 years from that point.

  13. BOB, played by Frank Silva died of a heart attack in 1996. The show would all but suck without him if it was continued.

  14. If there is is a third season of Twin Peaks then Major Garland Briggs ( not Don S Davis who is dead ) will find and enter the Black Lodge and free the good Dale ( probably passing the torn corpses of the Giant and the Arm who have been killed by the rebellious BOB ) and engage in a struggle against BOB.
